The 2026 World Cup still has to be played, but the next major European football tournament is already on the horizon: Euro 2028.
From 9 June to 9 July 2028, 24 European nations will compete for the continental title. The tournament will be hosted across England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales, making it one of the biggest football events in Europe.
But where will Euro 2028 be played? How will the tournament work? And when can you start your Euro 2028 prediction pool?
Here is everything we know so far.
When is Euro 2028?
Euro 2028 starts on Friday, 9 June 2028.
The opening match will be played in Cardiff. Exactly one month later, on Sunday, 9 July 2028, the final is scheduled to take place at Wembley Stadium in London.
In total, 51 matches will be played during the tournament.
That means a full month of football, with almost daily opportunities to predict results with friends, colleagues or family.
Where will Euro 2028 be held?
Euro 2028 will be hosted across four countries:
-
England
-
Ireland
-
Scotland
-
Wales
Matches will be played across nine stadiums in eight cities.
Venues include Wembley Stadium and Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, Hampden Park in Glasgow, St James' Park in Newcastle and Everton Stadium in Liverpool.
Cardiff, Dublin, Manchester and Birmingham will also host matches.
The semi-finals and final will be played at Wembley.
Which teams will play at Euro 2028?
Just like recent European Championships, 24 teams will take part in the final tournament.
The full list of participating countries is not known yet.
The host nations will also take part in the qualification process. Qualification will feature twelve groups of four or five teams.
The twelve group winners and the eight best runners-up will qualify directly. A separate system will also apply to host nations that do not qualify automatically.
Once qualification and the play-offs are complete, we will know the full Euro 2028 line-up.
How does Euro 2028 work?
The tournament format will remain the same as previous 24-team editions.
The teams will be divided into six groups of four.
The top two teams from every group will qualify for the round of 16. The four best third-placed teams will also progress.
From there, the knockout stage begins:
round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and, finally, the final.
From the round of 16 onwards, one bad game can end a team's tournament.
And that is exactly what makes predicting a European Championship so much fun.
When can I start a Euro 2028 prediction pool?
For many football fans, a prediction pool has become almost as important as the matches themselves.
Who will become European champion? Which country will surprise everyone? Who will be the top scorer? And which colleague will finish top of the leaderboard?
Once the teams, groups and fixtures for Euro 2028 are confirmed, you will be able to play a Euro 2028 prediction pool with Golero.
You can create a pool for:
-
friends;
-
family;
-
colleagues;
-
your football team;
-
your club;
-
or your entire company.
Each participant predicts match results and earns points based on their predictions.
Suddenly, every game matters — even if you would not normally be particularly interested in a match like Scotland against Austria.
A Euro 2028 prediction pool at work
For companies, Euro 2028 is a great opportunity to organise a shared football pool.
Everyone can take part, including colleagues who do not normally follow football closely. Predicting a score only takes a few seconds, while the leaderboard naturally creates extra competition throughout the tournament.
With Golero, you can set up your own company prediction pool and easily invite colleagues to join.
You can also add extra competition between teams, departments or offices.
Marketing versus Sales. Amsterdam versus Rotterdam. Office workers versus remote workers.
And in the end, there is one question everyone wants answered:
who will become the best football predictor in the company?
Euro 2028 promises to be a special tournament
With matches in some of Europe's most famous football cities, a final at Wembley and 24 nations competing for the title, Euro 2028 has everything it needs to become another major football event.
And although June 2028 may still feel far away, the build-up starts much earlier.
Qualification, the draw, the participating nations and eventually the predictions: more and more details will become clear as the tournament gets closer.
Golero will keep you updated.
And when it is time to start predicting?
Your Euro 2028 prediction pool will be ready.
